Basic Info
Name:Dexter Morgan
Birthdate:1975-08-13
Bio
An RP Journal for [info]haibane_hollow

Character name: Dexter Morgan
Fandom/series: Dexter (TV show, though I like to mix in little factuals from the book; the book and show are damn close)
Character age: Unspecified… early thirties?
What point in their timeline?: Uhm… end of season two? Somewhere around that~

Abilities/powers:I would almost go as far as saying Dexter is a genius. He's got a gift for planning, and never leaves a single detail overlooked. He's also got a way of reading people, something that lets him recognize the viciousness that others harbor inside him. It's not a supernatural ability, but he has this same viciousness in his self, so he's great at spotting it in other people. He's also one sneaky little thing. As far as I know he was never formally trained, but he spends many a night skulking around forbidden ground, and seldom if ever gets caught. Lastly, Dexter is a great fighter. Again, this ability does not extend passed what would be considered "human" but he did manage to fend off (and rough up) his big muscle-armed Sargent, so clearly Dexter is someone who can more then adequately defend himself.

Personality: Dexter has two different faces; the one he shows to everyone, and the one he keeps secret. Outwardly, one would consider Dexter an average, but friendly person. He smiles, and jokes, and brings donuts to his friends; he’s hansom, and flirty, and isn’t beyond a little flattery. He’s also smart, smarter then he likes to let people know, but that is course because Dexter is such a modest, nice guy. He likes to bowl, is good at his work, and a general pleasure to be around, if not a little dull at times.

That’s just what he’s worked to make people believe. Truthfully, Dexter is just an excellent actor. He has no idea about most of the social practices he acts his way through; he doesn’t understand people, and only manages to seem like he does because he’s practiced. He’s socially awkward deep down, and doesn’t understand people at all. He tends to take things literally, unable to read the subtext behind people’s words. He knows he’s different, and alone, but rather then wallowing in it, he learned how to survive how he is.

Dexter is also a serial killer. He’s had sadistic killer urges since he was a child. He began killing things like small animals, but eventually (with the guidance of his foster father) moved up to people. However, Dexter learned to channel his sadistic urges towards serial killers. He’s got, in his own words “a little conscious” that (usually) wont let him hurt people who are not serial killers. He often describes this dark part of his mind as a different persona, “The Dark Passenger”, who “sits in the back seat and whispers dark nothings… and I’m only there because I have the driver’s licence.” Dexter is also very neat, very meticulous, and very clean, in how he kills, and every other part of his life.

Haibane Feather: Black

History: Dexter grew up not remembering much of his past. He was taken from a crime scene by cop Harry Morgan, when he was hardly three years old. Dexter was adopted into the Morgan family not long after. One day, his father discovers a grave filled with animal bones, and when he confronts Dexter about it, his suspicions are confirmed; his son killed the animals. Harry is not severe with Dexter, but asks him about his urge to kill. Dexter somehow thinks this is something personal, as if his foster father is asking about a sexual dream. As the child grows, it becomes apparent that despite not being able to remember his past, Dexter harbours its scarring; Dexter had a growing urge to kill.

Despite this, Harry still wanted what was best for Dexter. As a cop, Harry knew how to teach Dexter to not get caught. To deal with Dexter's apparent lack of emotion and his indifference to other humans, Harry taught Dexter to seem normal, and thus not suspicious. He took his son on hunting trips (alone- despite his sister's protest) and allowed him to slice up the carcasses they killed, to help quell Dexter's bloodlust. He also taught Dexter a code, "Harry's Code", which becomes the foundation of Dexter's behaviour. "Harry's Code" is who Dexter is "allowed" to kill, and how to do it without getting caught.

This "code" is instilled most strongly in Dexter when his father becomes ill. He is sent to a hospital, where a nurse who is supposed to feed him his meds overdoses him, and gives him other drugs, which is slowly killing him. His father tells Dexter that some people the system doesn't catch, and some people deserve to die. The nurse becomes Dexter's first human kill.

Years later, after the death of both parents, Dexter and his sister, Debra, are working for the Miami police. Dexter works in forensics, and is a blood spatter expert. By now, Dexter has perfected his killing to an art, and quells his bloodlust regularly by ridding Miami of serial killers who have escaped the system. He’s also learned to recognize a killer almost right away.

One day, he is startled by a body he is sent to investigate, because there is no blood. "No hot, sticky, messy blood... it's perfect, why didn't I think of it?" The body is chopped into neat, perfect little sections. It is discovered that the killer does his work in a giant refrigerator, to slow the blood flow of his victims to avoid making a mess. This earns him the name "the ice truck killer". Dexter becomes more then a little obsessed with his killer, because his work is so perfect.

One night while Dexter is out driving, he notices a refrigerated truck. He follows it, but the truck turns around and flashes him with high beams, blinding him so the truck can escape. When Dexter opens his eyes, he sees a decapitated head flying at his window; the missing head of the previous victim. When he returns home -after dealing with the police- he finds a barbie doll tied up with red ribbon in his fridge. Instead of feeling frightened he feels excited, and sees this gesture to mean something like "want to play?"

After some perfectly executed killings of serial killers, Dexter and his department track the "ice truck killer". Dexter also spends some time with his girlfriend, Rita. He states that he chose her because she was broken, like him. He likes the fact that she doesn't like being touched, because neither does he. One night, he gets excited talking about the ice truck killer's victim, and touches Rita's leg to show where the body was cut. This scares Rita and confuses Dexter; he doesn't understand why he touched her that day.

This is an important event, because it causes Rita to strive to become alright with being touched. She even tries to be more assertive, which at first, only makes Dexter uncomfortable. Slowly though, Dexter begins to open up little by little. He cannot allow himself to be "himself" fully, because then what he is would be plainly obvious.

Dexter and the ice truck killer play games of wit: Dexter finds hidden meanings in the murder scenes he never shares, and uses them to track down the killer. He thinks of the ice truck killer as a master, and is always impressed and excited at his work. One night he stumbles into a horrible scene while trying to track the killer; a missing person, Tony Toochie, laid out and ready to kill, begging for death. Because Tony is not a killer, Dex can't do it. The ITK manages to snap a picture of him in front of the bound victim, but leaves the picture and the camera, and escapes.

Dexter becomes restless when the ITK becomes silent for a long while, never leaving any clues or even making any kills. He's disheartened when a man confesses to being the ITK, and goes to see him. It becomes apparent that the man never even knew Dexter, and Dex is delighted to know the real ITK is still out there.

Some time later, Dexter gets a letter saying his biological father has died, and left him the house. Dexter is confused by this, because Harry told him his biological dad was dead. So Dexter and Rita go up to the house, later to be joined by his sister, and her boyfriend, Rudy. Dexter discovers that his father had been alive, and Harry had lied. This confuses, and angers him. At this point, he's opening up slightly to most of the people around him; Rita, Debra, and even Rudy.

Rudy seems to be an odd person for Dex to open up to, but in truth it is the most natural thing for him to do. Rudy turns out to be not only the ice truck killer, but also Dexter's brother, Brian. The clues he left in his murders were supposed to help unlock Dexter's repressed memories of his past. Dexter longs to be with someone who understand him, but can't kill Debra, which is what Brian ends up urging him to do.

When Brian shows up at Dexter's house to kill Debra himself, Dexter catches him. Brian is knocked out and finds himself strapped into the same contraption he used to kill all his victims; a harness in his refrigerated room he uses to flip people upside down, so he can slash their necks and drain the blood. He tells Dex he only wanted to get rid of Deb to help him, so Dex could be himself. Dexter says he knows, and Brian and him begin to cry. Brian begins to speak, but Dexter simply cuts his throat. He then curls up in the corner and sobs, because his brother's death hurt him so much. Now he feels truly alone;just when he was beginning to learn to want to be with people. He feels there is no one left on earth who could understand him.

This begins to affect Dexter very badly; he gets shaky when he tries to kill, (performance anxiety *snicker*) and he even hallucinates his brother talking to him, on occation. On top of that, Sergeant Doakes, one of the people Dexter works with, is now highly suspicious of him. With Doakes on his tail, Dexter is forced into a dry spell for killing, and this does little to help his nerves.

Meanwhile, even Rita is getting suspicious, and all of Dexter’s neatly cut up bodies are discovered. He’s a smooth criminal, though. He managed to break the cooler that was keeping the room with the bodies cold, therefore spoiling the evidence, and found a more clever place to hide bodies. The let Rita believe (when she accused him) that he was actually addicted to drugs, and she agreed to stay with him if he attended drug meetings. He went to cover his tail, and Doakes found him there. This somehow got the cop off Dexter’s case, and he was glad.

At the Narcotics Annon meetings, Dexter met Lila. She seemed to not appreciate how Dexter was clearly making up stories about drug abuse at the meetings, and confronted him on it. Dexter wasn’t willing to listen at first, but she seemed to understand somehow the feelings of his bloodlust, even if she mistook it for drug addiction. So, somehow, they bonded. Lila sparked feelings in Dexter he couldn’t understand; anger and lust, to name a few. She is the one with him when Dexter goes to confront the man that killed his mother.

SIDETRACK; Dexter and Brian were present for their mother’s murder. She was chopped up into little pieces with a chainsaw over some drug deal gone wrong, and they were left soaking in her blood for two days.

MOVING ON; Lila was there. She even convinced Dexter to try to talk to the man first, which he did, but the man was a dick. So, Dexter killed him. He came back to Lila covered in blood, and she held him and comforted him, not seeming to care.

Rita finds out that they spent the night together, and is not very happy. She dumps Dexter, and Dexter sleeps with Lila. This sufficiently shuts up his “Dark Passenger” for a while. However, when Rita wants to get back together with Dex, he wants that too, and ends up leaving Lila. It becomes obvious the woman is very unstable when she tries to manipulate Dex into seeing her again through dating his friend Angel, and then accusing Angel of rape.

MEANWHILE; Dex is learning more about his past. Digging through police records and recordings, he learns that his mother and Harry were having an affair, and it was he who convinced her to put herself in danger the night she got killed. He also learns that Harry did not die of a heart attack, but killed himself after he found Dexter killing someone one night. His faith in Harry, and Harry’s code is shaken.

MOVING ON; Dexter is put under protection by the police when it is suspected that Doakes is the “Bay Harbour Butcher”, who is of course actually Dexter. Dex sneaks out to get a kill, but is caught by Doakes! They fight, and Dex wins and puts Doakes in a cage… though he wont kill him. His plan is to frame Doakes, but Doakes manages to convince Dex to turn himself in. BUT THEN Lila shows up, and Doakes tells her Dex is the killer. She, wanting to protect Dex, kills Doakes. BUT THEN, when she cant be with Dex (he promised to leave with her, a play to get a chance to kill her, but Debra shows up and riuns it) she takes Rita’s kids as bait for Dex, then locks them in her house and tries to burn it down. Dex saves the kids first, and barely manages to save himself.
The season (2) ends with Dex questioning himself; he has to be his own person, and that person is a serial killer. He’s done fighting it, and he’s happy to be himself, and a little less restricted by Harry’s imperfect code. Also, he flies to France to kill Lila. I’m gunna say the plane that was bringing him back crashed XD
